One of London's favourite hotels since opening in 1889, The Savoy Hotel is the place for everyone to come and celebrate a special occasion - be it clinching a big deal in the Savoy Grill , a family trip to remember, a romantic celebration or a defining moment for your company. Originally it was the brainchild of Gilbert and Sullivan impresario Richard D´Oyly Carte; The Savoy was for many years the principal hotel in The Savoy Group, which included The Berkeley, Claridge's and The Connaught and The Savoy Theatre.

The Savoy opened its doors to an eager public in 1889, having taken five years and vast expense to complete. When it opened on 6th August 1889, it incorporated unheard of features, including full electric lighting and a startling number of baths: 70 in total. Richard D´Oyly Carte laid the foundations for The Savoy´s heritage: British style and tradition coupled with innovation.

Masterful timing resulted in a glittering first season, and D´Oyly Carte ensured The Savoy´s continued success by luring celebrated hotelier Cesar Ritz from Paris to be Manager. Ritz was accompanied by Mâitre Chef Auguste Escoffier and master of wine Louise Echenard, who became Mâitre d´hotel. Escoffier created unique dishes for Sarah Bernhardt, Lily Langtry, Dame Mellie Melba and the Prince of Wales, later Edward VII. Ritz instituted the impeccable service, attention to detail and creativity, which soon came to be the hallmarks of the hotel.

In the ensuing years the hotel witnessed numerous expansions and has always incorporated the latest amenities and facilities. To ensure its self-sufficiency the hotel does not even rely on the vagaries of the outside world for power or water, or even for roasted coffee. The Savoy has been lovingly restored, with sumptuous new rooms, and the latest facilities have been added to ensure that you can enjoy the best of tradition with fine amenities such as the Fitness Gallery. Staying with the Savoy is a wonderful way to experience London, whether on business or pleasure.
